Team JBA USA extends winning streak on dramatic finish in Germany

Bamberg, Germany- Despite giving up a 19 point lead late in the third quarter, Team JBA USA went with another dramatic finish to extend their winning streak to six games.

After a miss three pointer by the Baunach Young Pikes, LaMelo Ball grabbed the rebound and pass the basketball to Curtis Hollis, who dished it to LiAngelo Ball for a layup.

The Young Pikes rushed for one more shot, but Melo stole the ball and threw it to Hollis, who missed the shot, but it took enough time off the clock as the Young Pikes ran out of time to make the last shot.

Team JBA USA held on to a 117-115 victory on Wednesday night at the Graf-Stauffenberg-Halle in Bamberg, Germany

Curtis Hollis led the way JBA USA (7-2) with 40 points to go with 11 rebounds while Melo Ball added 21 points, eight boards and four steals.

JBA USA was outrebounded 48 to 43, but the Young Pikes turned the ball over 22 to JBA USA 16.

Gelo Ball scored 38 points for Team JBA USA and Melvin Davis grabed 14 rebounds to go with his five blocks and four points.

JBA USA fell behind at the end of the first quarter, but rallied around another monstrous dunk by Melo Ball. Melo would cap off the victory with a steal to seal the victory.

“It was a lot of ups and downs,” Melo said. “There’s always going to be exciting plays and that dunk of course brought momentum. That was just one of those plays that hyped us up. In the last couple moments, I got the rebound and we started the fast break. I knew Gelo was going to be out there. I knew that’s how we were going to win. Gelo made the game winning layup and I got the game winning steal.”

Je’rell Springer scored 12 points, but only played one half of basketball after suffering an injury in the second quarter after driving to the basket. Tautvydas Slezas was called for an flagrant foul for pushing Springer to the ground.

JBA USA was already shorthanded with Springer out with Nyang Wek already out with a knee injury and Corey Boyd, who did not play after dealing with chest pains.

Both players are headed back to the United States to get examined on.

Mateo Seric led the Young Pikes with 19 points while Slezas dropped 18 points, 12 rebounds and six assists and Heckel added 15 points and nine assists for the Young Pikes, which 61 percent from the free throw line and missed crucial free throws late in the fourth quarter.

Felix Edwardsson scored 15 points to go with his five assists and Matej Jelovcic scored 13 points with six assists before fouling out for the Young Pikes.

Team JBA USA heads to Genk, Belgium for another game on Tuesday October, 30th. Game time scheduled at 1:30 pm EST.
