After feeling exhausted in their first game overseas, and down by 14 points with less than four minutes to go, the JBA USA squad needed a boost to lift them up.
That boost is named Jordan Ray.
The Atlanta Ballers guard came off the bench and scored 13 of his 19 points in the later half of the final quarter.
That set up Greg Floyd Jr.’s put-back to pull off the 120-118 victory over the Svendborg Rabbits on Saturday evening in a sold out Svendborg Idraetscenter in Denmark.
LiAngelo Ball, who scored a game-high 36 points, went to attempt the potential game winning three-pointer, but it fell short. Floyd, who put up seven points with seven rebounds, grabbed the ball and put it in with 0.3 seconds to go to give JBA USA (1-0) the lead.
JBA USA came into the third quarter behind 60-59 and went on a quick run to go up 76-67, thanks in part to LaMelo Ball who scored 31 points to go with his 10 rebounds and eight assists. The US squad though began to get in an offensive funk while getting fatigued.
The Rabbits went on a run of their own and controlled the majority of the second half thanks to Sebastian Petersen’s 28 points, 10 rebounds and five assists and Jeremiah Ingram’s 25 points, nine assists and eight rebounds.
Svendborg went on the attack in the key and made the best of second chance points on their offensive rebounds. Peter Moller scored 21 points, Jacob Jansen scored 17 points to go with his nine rebounds and Zach Charles added 16 points for the Rabbits.
The Rabbits went up 113-99 with less than four minutes to go. JBA USA put in Jordan Ray, who had only scored six points up until that point. Ray went on a rampage from the three-point line and brought JBA USA back in the game.
His presence opened up opportunities for his teammates. A charge by Je’rell Springer set up the game winning shot by Floyd.
Springer scored eight points with seven rebounds and Nate Morris grabbed eight rebounds before fouling out for JBA USA, which will now travel to Lithuania to take on Alytaus Dzukija on Monday October 1st, followed by Sintek Jonava on Thursday October 4th, before heading to Latvia on October 8th.
